Identification
Product Name: Liquid Oxygen (Initially referred as Oxy Plus). A
solution of 17.5% Hydrogen Peroxide
Chemical formula: LOX
Product Use: A source of additional oxygen for hydroponic nutrient
solutions.
Hazards Identification
- Toxic to living resources

- Prolonged exposure can cause central nervous system depression
- Giddiness and unconsciousness
- Coughing and chest pain

First Aid Measures
- Skin Contact: Immediately wash with plenty of water.
- Eye contact: Wash eyes thoroughly with water for at least 15
minutes. Hold the eyelids apart if required and seek medical assistance.
- Inhalation: Remove immediately from exposure. Rescuers should
wear PPE. At a minimum, self-contained breathing equipment should be
worn. Give oxygen if there is respiratory distress. Apply artificial
respiration if breathing fails. Never apply mouth to mouth ventilation
and get medical attention.
- Ingestion: Do not induce the victim to vomit. Wash out mouth
with lots of water and give water or milk to drink. If possible allow
the patient to release gases formed in the stomach.
Fire Fighting Measures
- Use proper extinguishing media for surrounding fire.
- Firefighters should wear appropriate protective clothing and
breathing apparatus
- Self-contained breathing equipment required.
- Cool fire exposed containers with water spray. Keep stored tanks cool
by spaying with water from a distance.
- Remove containers from fire area .
- Liberal quantities of water should be stored so as to dilute and wash
away escaping peroxide and fight fires.
Accidental Release Measures
- Avoid contact with the product.
- Ventilate the area .
- Wear protective clothing with breathing apparatus.
- Remove all combustible materials.
- Small and large spills should be washed to drain with large
quantities of water
- Evacuate all non-essential personnel from the area
- Stop leak
- Allow to evaporate to atmosphere
- Do not walk over the spill
Handling & Storage Handling
- Avoid or minimize skin contact
- Wear protective clothing
- Safety showers and eyebaths should be available in handling areas
- Ensure adequate ventilation
- Remove ignition sources
- Do not smoke
- Open containers with great care as pressure may have built up during
storage
- Avoid contact with flammable products
- Protect system components against physical damage
- Do not work on a pressurized system.
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated area
- Store away from incompatible chemicals and materials
- Avoid exposure to sunlight
- Avoid exposure to heat and flammable sources or contamination by
combustible dust
- Store on flooring that is concrete so that they can be swilled and
drained
- Large quantities must be stored in vented containers which are clean
and free of organic residues
- Do not store in metal container.
- Use containers designed for storage and distribution of liquid
oxygen.
Disposal Considerations
- Treat like spillages
- Wear protective clothing.
- Do not mix with acids or reducing agents, in drains.
- Do not try to neutralize with strong acids.
- Spillages may be washed to drain with large quantities of water.
- Dispose hazardous waste considering waste disposal or water authority
regulations.
