Technical Specification
An economical one, Nitrous Oxide plant has been constructed in a quite safe & efficient manner where the power consumption is lessened due to its generation system. While the plant's safety is heightened with its storage battery assembly for separation of Nitrogen. Conforming to Indian Pharmacopia, US & European standards, the gas manufactured is stored in liquid state to be later filled into cylinders directly.

Nitrous Oxide PlantSome of the salient features of Nitrous Oxide Plants :
  • The product purity meets world standards.
  • Plant incorporated with special safety features.
  • Stainless Steel Construction.
  • Separate mounting & controlling of Decomposer and Melter.
  • Installment of online moisture meter.
  • The plant is assorted with standard accessories as the complete laboratory equipment for testing of gas
  • Provision of double drier.
  • Less space required for skid mounting & modular design.
Manufacturing Process :
At a temperature of 250°C, Nitrous oxide is produced when Ammonium Nitrate is heated & a mixture of Nitrous Oxide & super heated steam is produced after the decomposition of Ammonium Nitrate. Impurities like Ammonium Nitrate fumes, Nitrogen & other oxides of Nitrogen are as well produced which are later on removed along with steam by water, caustic soda and sulphuric acid scrubbing. Nitrous oxide is stored in the top of storage vessels after compression where through bleeding the Nitrogen present in traces is removed.

The Ammonium nitrate (even technical grade), after melted in a melter, is flown into a combustion pot where it gets decomposed as per the following reaction :

It needs proper controlling for an awesome result because of its ticklish reaction. We require the reaction yield of almost 95% or more, though, we do not yield if the temperature of ammonium nitrate is allowed to go beyond a certain point. Along with N2O, the impurities are obtained as products of combustion such as undecomposable ammonium nitrate, with its fumes. All these are recovered in the primary scrubber while the entrained moisture and traces of ammonium nitrate get separated in the mist separator when the steam in the hot gas is condensed in the first water scrubber. Caustic scrubber is applied to remove the residual traces of ammonium nitrate, carbon dioxide and other oxides of nitrogen. Nitrous oxide as an oxide gas for atomic absorption in spectrophotometer and as fuel oxidant for racing vehicles.

The derived gas containing some nitrogen are stored in the gas balloons. The gas is compressed with a compressor, dried in a drier and is refrigerated after turning into a liquid. Storage of liquid nitrous oxide is done in a high-pressure storage vessel into cylinders while the gas gets filled by weight. Pumps are used for filling of the gas in cylinders after it is refrigerated & stored in a storage tank in a low pressure plant. On the other hand, for the ensuring of product quality & record maintenance, every batch is analyzed in the laboratory.
